The girls volleyball team is off to a killer start, with the girls going 6-1 over their first seven matches.
The team broke two records during the second game of the season against Perry Meridian, just their second match of the season.
The team lost their leading scorer who had been a part of the team for the past 4 years, but returned almost the entire returning line up and added a few new faces to the team.
“We returned the rest of our offense as well as our setter and two of our defenders and everything added to that has been leaps and bounds above where we were last year.” Head Coach Emily Sellers said.
The girls won their FC Invite that they haven’t won in over seven years. They had a winning record of 4-0 and managed to take home the trophy against opponents Beech Grove, Martinsville, Columbus North, and Pendleton Heights. This was a long and hard fought battle.
Setter Emily Williams broke a record for the most aces in a set serving 9 aces about Beech Grove.
Coach Sellers said, “I felt really good about it and the team worked really hard. It feels really good to keep our trophy at home.”
The girls took down a top 15 team, Franklin Community, on the road in 4 sets. “I think Franklin Community has been the biggest game so far, and we took them down in a very controllable fashion.” Sellers stated.
The team just lost a very hard fought five-set battle against Center Grove on Monday August 8th. The girls return back in action on September15, for a conference match against Greenwood Community.
