This year, Franklin Central High School is holding their annual Homecoming dance September 27th. With the dance arriving fast, students are eager to find what they will wear.
Fashion is important to today’s culture. With that being said, how will students incorporate their everyday style into finding that perfect look for homecoming?
For this discussion, both boys and girls of Franklin Central High School were asked about their perception on fashion trends. To find a further understanding on how the fashion trends have evolved, an alumnus source was also asked about their thoughts on today’s looks to see the difference in times and fashions.
When Franklin Central male students Ram Thang and Thang Muan were asked about the styles improving or getting worse, Ram Thang said “It definitely got better” and Thang Muan. added on to that with, “Yeah definitely one hundred percent.”
The two were asked what type of style they normally go for and they provided popular styles like casual wear and street wear. The boys believed they had a good sense of fashion and had confidence in what they were wearing. Thang mentioned getting inspiration for how he dressed from platforms like TikTok, having Muan in agreement.
After getting the perspective of the boys, Franklin Central students Jaci Parker and Nilen Thangnget provided more insights on teen views of the fashion trends from the female perspectives. Jaci Parker pronounced some of today’s fashions “repetitive.”
Parker thought individuality was still a part of the culture, adding, “there’s a lot of ways to be yourself with styles.”
Parker then suggested people wear what they want and not what everyone else is. Pushing for some creativity or originality among the crowd.
Nilen Thangnget thinks the improvement of style “varies.” Thangnget talked about how she spends time thrifting to piece her own style together, creating authenticity while also saving money!
Substitute teacher Sarah Bennett was in the graduating class of 2023. She played into the idea that the dresses girls wear to homecoming in today’s time look like going out to dinner dresses and talked about how more extravagant dresses were worn in her high school years back in 2023. Bennett said she didn’t have an intended style and discussed that she will wear whatever she feels like depending on her mood that day.
The idea of everyone pushing for originality and authenticity really stood out in the discussion of finding one’s own fashion in today’s period. Each of these sources were confident in the clothes that they cover their character with. With the idea of fashion trends improving, how will you continue to express yourself through clothes?
