The Franklin Central Flashes opened their outdoor track season April 10 against Greenwood and Cathedral with a commanding victory, more than doubling the combined score of the other two teams.
The boys are expected to make a big impact this season with returning athletes like sprinter Dennis Mitchell, Jr. and long-distance runner, Kervenson Clerger runners who made a big impact on the team last season.
Coaches predict strong performances in both individual and relay events. “We were really successful last year, I think we’ll be even more successful this year,” says Coach Pierson. He plans to keep building a strong, healthy team environment and believes the class of 2026 is the team’s strength.
Pierson also highlighted sprinter Ryllen Echols as a team leader who supports younger athletes and helps coaches stay organized.
Franklin Central sprinter Dennis Mitchell, Jr. predicted that this season will be “solid,” noting that despite losing a few key athletes, the team has gotten significantly faster overall. Pierson also expects Clerger to be a strong leader who leads by example and brings a competitive edge to the group.
Mitchell’s goals for the team include winning the conference title and finishing in the top five at state. With strong leadership and high expectations, the team is poised to chase big goals this season.
